Always the first against breast cancer (awards)

Butterfly-shaped medal for the women's run

October has been celebrated worldwide as Breast Cancer Awareness Month since 1985. All initiatives related to prevention and the fight against this cancer culminate in October. The same is true of the Women’s Run, which has brought together thousands of Polish women since 2015. This year, the final run will take place on October 9 at Malta in Poznań.

We have been producing medals for this important event since 2017. From this article you will find out what Pink October is, a bit more about the foundation and the Women’s Run, and see some of our medals related to the Breast Cancer Prevention event.

October with a pink ribbon

It is estimated that every year breast cancer is diagnosed in more than 1.5 million women, and more than 500 000 ladies die from it. In Poland, this cancer is one of the biggest causes of premature death in women. The risk of the disease increases with age, but this does not mean that a young girl cannot get breast cancer as well.

The idea of Pink October is to support and remind people of the importance of prevention, self-examination and quick diagnosis, which can save lives. One of the biggest running events with a pink ribbon in the background is the Women’s Run organised by Mrs Marzena Michalec – Woman on the Run.

Women’s Run for Health

Always before breast cancer first is the slogan that guides the organisers and participants of the Women’s Run. It is the largest running event in Poland supporting women and promoting health care, not only in the context of cancer. Every year, more and more ladies join the race who want to take care of themselves and their friends. The Foundation provides free preventive examinations for participants, supports „onco heroines” (every year financial support is given to ladies facing cancer), promotes a healthy, active lifestyle, and organises training and webinars on health issues.

The final run took place on 9 October in Poznań, but participants run all year round. There is also a virtual Women’s Run with a final on 30 October, in which anyone who has supported the Foundation and the heroine (in the 2022 edition it is Ms Sylwia) can take part by purchasing a participation package. The package includes a T-shirt with a colourful print and the run logo, a Modern Forms medal in the shape of a butterfly and a pink ribbon, a starting number and a cosmetics kit. 10% of the amount from each order financially supports Ms Sylwia’s treatment.

The whole project is designed to encourage people to take care of themselves, it focuses on anti-cancer prevention, but it is also a motivation to spend time actively.

MODERN FORMS AWARDS FOR THE WOMEN’S RACE

The Women’s Run is our long-standing customer. We have been producing awards for this noble event since 2017. It is our medals that you will find in the participants’ start packs. Every year, their design changes. This year’s medals are shaped like a butterfly, which symbolically gives wings to the female competitors. A symbol of the fight against breast cancer – a pink ribbon – has been woven into the shape of this colourful insect. The entire design is finished with a pink sublimation ribbon printed with the run logo.

This year, for the first time, a race dedicated specifically to children was organised. These medals also come from our workshop. They have a simple shape and a colourful, fun print. The children’s medals are cut out of black steel and are given to each little runner as a memento of the start. We know how such a symbolic trophy can ignite the will to fight in kids.
